Eating at Home More Often

The wife and I are starting to eat at home more often.  We used to average eating out 4 times per week.  Now, we average two times per week or lately, even less.  The cost savings can be large. For example, lets look at one of our favorite dining out establishments.

Outback

1 Outback Style Prime Rib- $17.49

1 Prime Minister’s 8 oz. Prime Rib- $15.49

2 Cokes- $4

Tip-  $5.75

Total= $42.73

Now, lets compare that to my stellar chicken soup I make at home. 

1 bag of chicken tenderlion- $8

2 cans of fat free chicken broth- $3

1 bag of egg noodles- $1.50

1 bag of celery- $1.75

1 bag of carrots- $1.60

Total= $15.85

We also have enough chicken soup to last up to four days although my wife will only eat the same meal two days in a row.  My mom used to make incredible scalloped potatoes and ham that I would have no problem attacking for four days easy.  Needless to say, eating at home can be a big saver.
